Davis is a community vested in the quality of its public education, volunteer involvement, and interest in the arts. The DSAF is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission it is to raise money for art education in the Davis public schools. Our board is comprised of parents, teachers, and community members all committed to the belief that every child should have access to the arts at every grade level. We believe that the value of visual & performance arts is equal to that of other curriculum and essential for the education of the whole child. Unfortunately, the passage of Proposition 13 in 1978 forced the school district to make deep cuts in the art education budget. The DSAF was set up as a matching funds organization with the district to keep art education alive in the Davis public schools. It has since been, and continues to be, only through the generous contributions of members in the private & business community of Davis that the DSAF & the DJUSD are able to keep the arts available to all students in our public schools.
It’s magic!
Our annual fundraising makes it possible for us to award dozens of grants in the visual and performance arts throughout the district. We also provide funding for on-going projects at each elementary school such as materials for the elementary school art boxes, school bands, choruses and musicals. Funds raised through the DSAF also sponsor one-time arts expenditures for such creative ideas as visiting artists, stage scenery, musical scores and orchestrations, and costumes refurbishment.
